Understanding Comics…

I met Scott McCloud.

I’ve been a fan of his for years now, back when I read “Understanding Comics” in High School. Back then I didn’t have access to a lot of comics, but the ones I read happened to be, by chance, seminal works; Watchmen. Dark Knight Returns, Batman Year One, among others. But “Understanding Comics” was more than just about comics, it was about time and space, art history and human history, our perception of the world. Ok, I got a little carried away, but it really is a nice little book.

Comics held an infinite potential back then, and it has faded a bit for me, as my own limitations have become apparent. Yesterday I could remember that potential, how easy fulfilling it seemed.

Anywhoo… it was a great evening. A lot of my teachers showed up, and the discussion that came out was incredibly interesting, like staring into the innards of the comic book industry. Afterwards I got a cheeseburger and a beer. Go here for Yali’s account.

I love this industry, I love this career. I hope I never have to leave it…(I haven’t even entered it yet)

And please excuse the heavy handed rant.
